The Minister of Economic Development of Georgia visits Estonia as the Estonian businessmen show growing interest in Georgia



On May 10-12, 2009, Minister of Economic Development of Georgia Mr. Lasha Zhvania paid a two-day official visit to the capital of Estonia. He was accompanied by Director of the Georgian National Investment Agency Nino Baratashvili. Mr. Zhvania had several high-profile meetings with the representatives of the Estonian Government including Prime Minister of Estonia Mr. Andrus Ansip, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia Mr. Juhan Parts and Undersecretary of External Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation Mrs. Marina Kaljurand. The Minister of Economic Development of Georgia also had interesting and productive meetings with the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Credit and Export Guarantee Fund KredEx, the largest government agency supporting entrepreneurship Enterprise Estonia and the Estonian Development Fund Arengufond. Besides, Mr. Zhvania met with the representatives of the Estonian private sector who are interested in starting business in Georgia.
 
On May 7, 2009, just several days before the visit of the Minister of Economic Development of Georgia to Estonia, a seminar titled “Target Market Georgia” was held for the Estonian businessmen in Tallinn. The Georgian National Investment Agency was represented at the seminar by its Investor Relations Coordinator Mikheil Kobaladze. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Embassy of Georgia in Estonia supported the seminar and took part in its preparation works.
 
About 60 Estonian entrepreneurs from various business fields attended the event and expressed great interest in the investment opportunities of Georgia. The representative of the Georgian National Investment Agency briefed the gathered audience about Georgia’s economy and investment climate.
 

A group of Estonian businessmen plans to visit Georgia in the first half of June 2009 within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia in what can be seen as a growing interest of the Estonian companies in Georgia.
