Georgia’s Foreign Trade Statistics – January 2008

Georgia’s foreign trade turnover in January 2008 totalled 504 million USD, 26.6% more than during the same timeframe in the previous year. Of the 504 million USD, exports amounted to 97.2 million USD (up by 39.9%) and imports made 406.8 million USD (up by 23.9%). Georgia’s negative trade balance is 309.6 million USD.

 

The leading share in Georgian exports is held by copper ore and concentrates (24.6 million USD, 25.3% of all exports), nitric fertilizers (11.6%), scrap black metal (7.3%), processed or semi-processed gold (6.7%) and walnuts (4.2%).

 

The leading share in Georgian imports is held by oil gases and gas-like hydrocarbons (8.4% of all imports), oil and oil products (8.3%), wheat (3.3%) and curative means (2.1%).

 

According to January 2008 results, Georgia’s foreign trade turnover with the EU 27 increased by 42.6% and made 150.9 million USD (30% of total foreign trade turnover). Of this, Georgian exports to the European Union made 40.1 million USD (up by 85.1%) and imports made 110.8 million USD (up by 31.7%).

 

In the same period, Georgia’s trade turnover with CIS countries increased by 4.6% and made            172.8 million USD (34.3% of total foreign trade turnover). Georgia’s exports to CIS countries made 26.2 million USD (27% of total exports) and imports made 146.6 million USD (36% of total imports).
