Free Trade Agreement with Turkey

Prepared by the Georgian National Investment Agency
January 23, 2009

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Georgia and the Republic of Turkey was signed in November 2007 and entered into force on November 1, 2008. The aforementioned agreement is set to facilitate the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, encourage entrepreneurs to gain access to new markets and support implementation of investment projects.

Taking into account the high customs taxes operating currently in Turkey, this agreement will facilitate the increase of Georgian exports to its neighboring country, especially in the field of agriculture. Turkey is currently among Georgia’s top export destinations.

FTA envisages entire liberalization of trade on industrial goods as well as essential preferences in the field of agriculture.

The following list – Table #1 includes those products originating in the Republic of Turkey, which do not fall under free trade treatment while importing to Georgia.
