The Minister of Economic Development of Georgia Mr. Lasha Zhvania’s visit to Baku, Azerbaijan
During the visit, the Minister signed the Protocol of Amendments to the “Agreement on Air Communication between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Georgia”, signed on February 3, 1993. The Protocol makes the existing agreement more liberal by abolishing the restrictions for capacity, frequency, tariffs, destination points etc.

On May 10-12, 2009, Minister of Economic Development of Georgia Mr. Lasha Zhvania paid a two-day official visit to the capital of Estonia. He was accompanied by Director of the Georgian National Investment Agency Nino Baratashvili. Mr. Zhvania had several high-profile meetings with the representatives of the Estonian Government including Prime Minister of Estonia Mr. Andrus Ansip, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia Mr. Juhan Parts and Undersecretary of External Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation Mrs. Marina Kaljurand.

The Deputy Director of the Georgian National Investment Agency Ms. Ia Janashia attended the 7th annual joint Canadian-Turkish conference: “DIVERSIFYING OUT OF THE CRISIS” in Istanbul, Turkey. During the conference the main sectors of interests were Energy and Agriculture. Throughout the conference Ms. Janashia gave the presentation on Georgian Investment Climate Overview. She also conducted B2B meetings with Canadian and Turkish Companies regarding the investment opportunities in Georgia. Furthermore, Canadian side expressed their readiness to have close corporation with GNIA to explore investment potential in Georgia.

European Investment Bank to Allocate 222m EUR to Georgia

Georgia ranks 15th in the new “Doing Business 2009” report
Georgia ranks 15th out of 181 countries of the world according to the ease of doing business in the “Doing Business 2009” report released by the World Bank. It moved 15 places up from the previously held 18th. Back in 2007 Georgia was only 35th in the similar report.

Foreign Direct Investments in the first half of 2008
The amount of foreign direct investment in Georgia in the first half of 2008 made 955.4 million USD, which is 16.1% more than in the first half of 2007. The largest investments in the Georgian economy in the first half of 2008 came from the United Arab Emirates (202.8 million USD).
